解题步骤如下：

1)首先用一分钟左右的时间略读原文，了解文章的大意和结构。主要浏览对象是文章中的标题(Title)和副标题(Subtitle)或段落标题(Section heading)。

例如：在样题中出现的标题是：
标题： Landfills
副标题：How Much Trash Is Generated?
How Is Trash Disposed of?
What Is a Landfill?
Proposing the Landfill
Building the Landfill
What Happens to Trash in a Landfill?
How Is a Landfill Operated?

从标题中可以推断出这篇文章主要介绍的是垃圾处理设施---landfill，从副标题中可以推测文章将会重点分步介绍产生有多少垃圾，垃圾场如何处理垃圾，垃圾处理场的定义，垃圾处理场的规划、修建，以及如何运作等。

在2006年6月的全真题中出现的标题是：

标题：Highways
副标题：Design Cri-teria Highway System（资料来源原文如此）
The Signification of Highway System

从标题中可以推断出这篇文章主要介绍的是高速公路--highways，从副标题中可以推测文章将会重点介绍设计高速公路体系及其重要意义。

例如样题No. 10 Materials that are not permitted to be buried in landfills should be dumped at ______. 根据出题规律，可以判断这一问题的答案应该出现在文章的最后部分，所以可以先锁定最后一个副标题How Is a Landfill Operated? 然后锁定段落Along the site, there are drop-off stations for materials that are not wanted or legally banned by the landfill. A multi-material drop-off station is used for tires, motor oil, lead-acid batteries. 这些副标题一方面可以帮助考生迅速合理推测并确定文章的大概内容，避免重复阅读无关信息，提高查读的针对性；另一方面，对快速理解和整体把握文章内容以及推测出生词的词义范围有积极的意义。因为英语单词一词多义现象太普遍了，一个单词在不同的专业领域往往含有不同的意思，甚至有的单词在同一专业领域在其意义的具体把握上也有细微的差别。这些副标题同时也可以帮助考生很快锁定解题范围；另外，当涉及到文章主旨意思时，副标题的综合就是主旨题答案的来源。

2) 在进入下一步阅读之前，最好是先仔细阅读题目，找出题干中的关键词，然后再有目的地在原文中搜索相关信息。将题目中的关键词先定位到原文中的一个段落，进而定位相关句子，需要密切关注的是题干中的关键词在原文中首次出现的地方通常就是答案所在的位置，这将大大缩短解题时间，并提高准确率。另外尤其关键的是出题的顺序与文章的篇章段落展开的顺序是一致的。例如：2006年6月的全真题中的第二段：

With the increase in auto production, private turnpike (收费公路)companies under local authority began to spring up, and by 1921 there were 387,000 miles of paved roads.
