3) 如何确定关键词。这里所说的关键词并不一定是题干中最重要的词，而是特征比较明显，容易识别，具备重要提示功能的词，例如表示人名、地点、时间、数字的词语，以及特殊印刷的字体---大写字母、斜体词、粗体词、特殊符号、带下划线的词等。如问题或填空的句子中涉及到人名、地名，则主要寻找首字母大写的单词；有关日期、数目的问题，则主要查找具体数字。而与所要查找的信息无关的内容则可以一掠而过。根据题干中的关键词，迅速确定一个段落，由于答案在该段落中的具体位置是未知的，所以应该从头到尾快速阅读该关键词所处的段落，在原文中找出与题目相关的一句或几句话，通常是一句话。例如2006年6月的全真题No. 3 It was in the 1950s that American government finally took action to build a national highway system. 题干中的关键词是时间in the 1950s，从而快速确定原文中相关信息出现的位置，位于第四段第一句：The interstate highway system was finally launched in 1956 and has been hailed as one of the greatest public works projects of the century.该句中的in 1956与题干相符，答案是Y。再如2006年6月的全真题No. 5 In spite of safety considerations, the death rate on interstate highways is still higher than that of other American roads.题干中的关键词是the death rate，从而快速确定了原文中相关信息出现的位置是第五段的最后一句: The death rate on highways is half of that of all other U.S. roads (0.86 deaths per 100 million passenger miles compared to 1.99 deaths per million on all other roads). 题干的意思与原文内容正好相反，答案应是N。简而言之，快速阅读实际上就是带着明确的目的去看文章，是检索信息，搜索答案，而不是看懂多少内容。

考生应该牢记一点：快速阅读并不是为了阅读而阅读，而是为了做题而阅读。

4) 要注意顺序性，即题目的顺序和原文内容的顺序基本一致。按照问题的顺序,第一题的答案应在文章的前部，第二题的答案应在第一题的答案之后，这个规律也有助于考生确定答案的位置，然后就是根据原文判断正误了。但是有时也会出现不完全依照这一规律的现象，例如2006年6月的全真题No. 7和No. 8的答案分别出现在了原文的第七段和第六段。No. 9的答案虽然也出现在第七段，但在原文中所处的句子则早于No. 7。

5）如何区分错(No)和未提及(Not Given)。这是新四级快速阅读中最难处理的部分。以往的阅读训练中，通常认为没有提到的就是错误的，而在新题型中，"N"指的是和原文的内容完全矛盾或截然相反；而"NG"是指在原文中并没有明确告知，但内容并不与原文相矛盾。

例如2006年6月的全真题No. 7 Service stations, motels and restaurants promoted the development of the interstate highway system.题干的关键词是service stations, motels and restaurants。通过搜索发现这些关键词出现在文章的第七段：The interstate system has been an essential element of the nation's economic growth in terms of shipping and job creation: more than 75 percent of the nation's freight deliveries arrive by truck, and most products that arrive by rail or air use interstates for the last leg of the Journey by vehicle. Not only has the highway system affected the American economy by providing shipping routes, it has led to the growth of spin-off industries, like service stations, motels, restaurants, and shopping centers. It has allowed the relocation of manufacturing plants and other industries from urban areas to rural.但是原文中的意思是州际公路带动了service stations, motels, restaurants等的发展，而题目的意思与文章的意思相反了，所以答案应该是N。再如样题No. 6 In the United States the building of landfills is the job of both fed-eral and local governments. 在判断时，先确定关键词the building of landfills， federal和local governments，进而找出含有出题点的句子In the United States, taking care of trash and building landfills are local government responsibilities.显而易见，题干中的范围大于了原句的范围，因此答案应是N。

例如样题No. 7 Hazardous wastes have to be treated before being dumped into land-fills. 题干的关键词是hazardous wastes，通过搜索发现关键词出现的段落：In addition, there is a household hazardous waste drop-off station for chemicals (paints, pesticides, other chemicals) that are banned from the landfill. These chemicals are disposed by private com-panies. Some paints can be recycled and some organic chemicals can be burned in furnaces or power plants. 认真研读该段落，我们并没有发现"在危险废弃物倒进掩埋式垃圾处理池之前要进行无危害处理"的要求，也就是说在原文中根本没有提及，我们根据原文内容也无法判断真假，答案就应该是NG。再如2006年6月的全真题No. 6 The interstate highway system provides access between major military installations in America. 题干的关键词是provides access between major military installations，通过搜索发现只找到了关键词provide和access，所处的句子是By opening the North continent, highways have enabled consumer goods and services to reach people in remote and rural areas of the country, spurred the growth of suburbs, and provided people with greater options in terms of jobs, access to cultural programs, health care, and other benefits.认真研读该句，我们并没有找到military installations，继续快速浏览原文后面的内容，也未发现military installa-tions，因此可以断定在原文中并未提及"军事基地"， 但是也未找到相矛盾的信息，我们也就无法根据原文内容做出真假判断，答案就应该是NG。注意不要主观猜测作者的观点或态度，一切都应基于原文中所提及的内容。
